85-year-old man hit, killed by pickup truck in Seminole

Deputies say the man was not in a designated crosswalk.

SEMINOLE, Fla. — The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office says a man was hit and killed in a crash early Friday morning in Seminole.

Deputies responded around 6 a.m. to reports of a pedestrian crash on Starkey Road and Park Boulevard.

According to investigators, a 2015 GMC pickup truck was driving northbound on Starkey Road in the curb lane when 85-year-old Michael Gravino was attempting to cross west to east. He was not in a designated crosswalk, according to the sheriff's office.

As the driver moved into the center lane, deputies say he hit Gravino. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the sheriff's office, speed and impairment do not appear to be factors in the crash.

A portion of Starkey Road was shut down for several hours but has since reopened.

The investigation is ongoing.
