Crash involving Hillsborough deputies shuts down U.S. 301

The deputies were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

WIMAUMA, Fla. — An accident involving two Hillsborough County deputies has shut down part of U.S. 301 near Wimauma, the sheriff's office says.

Around 1:30 p.m., the driver of a Kia Sportage stopped in the road southbound on U.S. Highway 301 south of State Road 674. The driver of a Honda CRV, also headed southbound, attempted to swerve right to avoid running into the back of the Kia.

The Honda CRV struck the rear of the Kia, pushing the vehicle left across the double yellow line, and into a Ford Taurus driven by a Hillsborough detective.

Another deputy was in the passenger seat of the vehicle.

Both deputies were taken to Tampa General Hospital with minor injuries.
