SEFFNER, Fla. — A wrong-way driver was arrested after a crash early Monday morning on Interstate 4, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash happened at about 3:25 a.m. on I-4 East before Mango Road in Seffner.
Troopers say 58-year-old Larry McComsey was driving a sedan westbound in the eastbound lanes of I-4 while a tractor-trailer was driving eastbound. Despite trying to avoid the oncoming car, the truck driver was hit nearly head-on by McComsey's car, according to FHP.
Both vehicles spun out and ended up in the eastbound lanes. Troopers say about 100 gallons of fuel spilled out of the truck after the crash.
Both drivers suffered minor injuries.
FHP says McComsey was later arrested for DUI and driving in the wrong direction.
Three eastbound lanes of I-4 were blocked for several hours but have since reopened.
