FHP: Motorcyclist loses control, fatally crashes into chain link fence on SR-618 in Tampa

The 28-year-old Tampa man who was riding on the bike died at the scene of the crash.

TAMPA, Fla. — A 28-year-old man is dead after a crash occurred Saturday night in Tampa, authorities say. 

The collision occurred at around 9:45 p.m. on westbound State Road 618  and West Bay to Bay Boulevard, the Florida Highway Patrol reports. 

An update Sunday afternoon from FHP explains a Ducati motorcycle was traveling westbound on SR 618 when the rider "lost control at high speed."

They reportedly drove off the roadway before entering the north shoulder and hitting a chain link fence.

The 28-year-old Tampa man who was riding on the bike died at the scene of the crash, according to the agency.

As a result of the crash, all westbound lanes of SR-618 were reportedly closed. Traffic was being rerouted onto Willow Avenue. 

Drivers in or heading to the area were urged to take alternate routes.
