TAMPA, Fla. — A 28-year-old man is dead after a crash occurred Saturday night in Tampa, authorities say.
The collision occurred at around 9:45 p.m. on westbound State Road 618 and West Bay to Bay Boulevard, the Florida Highway Patrol reports.
An update Sunday afternoon from FHP explains a Ducati motorcycle was traveling westbound on SR 618 when the rider "lost control at high speed."
They reportedly drove off the roadway before entering the north shoulder and hitting a chain link fence.
The 28-year-old Tampa man who was riding on the bike died at the scene of the crash, according to the agency.
As a result of the crash, all westbound lanes of SR-618 were reportedly closed. Traffic was being rerouted onto Willow Avenue.
Drivers in or heading to the area were urged to take alternate routes.
