Brush fire shuts down part of I-75 in Sarasota County

All lanes are back open to traffic after closing for several hours.

SARASOTA COUNTY, Fla. — A brush fire shut down part of Interstate 75, south of Laurel Road, Monday evening in Sarasota County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. 

The Florida Forest Service said the five-acre fire was 90% contained as of 9 p.m. At 10 p.m., FHP said all lanes of I-75 were back open after closing for several hours.

Troopers were diverting southbound traffic off I-75 at the Laurel Road exit (Exit 195).

Traffic cameras showed a large cloud of black smoke near Laurel Road. FHP will continue to monitor the area overnight.
