TAMPA, Fla. — The International Space Station flew over the Tampa Bay area on May 27, 2024, from a mere 261 miles above Earth's surface, according to NASA.

The photo spotlights several Tampa-area locations, including the beautiful Gulf of Mexico and its beaches, Tampa International Airport, MacDill Air Force Base and the Sunshine Skyway Bridge.

Clearwater, St. Petersburg, Tampa and the surrounding suburbs can be seen from the orbital picture, as well.

The sky was nearly clear, offering a perfect aerial view of Tampa and the sandbars in the Gulf.

While the ISS may not take another picture of Tampa for a while, it'll be hovering over the region and incrementally visible to the naked eye until 9:01 p.m. June 4.
