Beijing, China (SportsNetwork.com) - High-flying world No. 1 superstar Serena Williams was an easy quarterfinal winner Friday at the $5 million China Open.
The 2004 Beijing champion handled sixth-seeded former top-ranked star Caroline Wozniacki 6-1, 6-4 on the hardcourts at the National Tennis Center. Wozniacki was the China Open champ in 2010.
The American great Williams improved to 6-1 lifetime against the Danish Wozniacki.
The reigning U.S. and French Open champion Williams is now a brilliant 71-4 this season and seeking her 10th title of 2013.
Her semifinal opponent on Saturday will be third-seeded Pole Agnieszka Radwanska, who got past seventh-seeded German Angelique Kerber 7-6 (9-7), 6-4 on Day 7. The left-hander Kerber was a runner-up in Tokyo last week.
Radwanska, who lost to Williams in last year's Wimbledon finale, was the China Open champion two years ago and runner-up in 2009.
Saturday's other semifinal in Beijing will pit eighth-seeded former No. 1 Jelena Jankovic against ninth-seeded Czech slugger Petra Kvitova, who beat Kerber in last week's all-southpaw final in Tokyo. Kvitova came from behind to upset fourth-seeded Chinese crowd favorite Li Na 4-6, 6-2, 6-4, while the Serbian Jankovic overcame Czech Lucie Safarova 6-7 (3-7), 6-4, 6-4 to reach the final four.
Jankovic titled here in 2008 and was the Beijing runner-up in 2007.
The 2013 China Open titlist will collect $860,000.
