Simone Biles, Jordan Chiles bow down to Rebeca Andrade after she snagged gold medal; celebrates first all-Black podium in women's gymnastics history

The two showed sportsmanship, and people praised them on social media.

PARIS, France — American Olympians Simone Biles and Jordan Chiles showed sportsmanship on Monday after making the Olympic podium in the women's floor exercise final.

According to the TODAY show, it was the first all-Black Olympic gymnastics podium in history.

Biles did not top the podium after slipping off the apparatus in the balance beam event final, but she still appeared with her silver medal on the floor, her 11th Olympic medal.

Chiles took home the bronze after a score change due to an inquiry over her difficulty score.

During the medaling ceremony, Biles and Chiles bowed to Rebeca Andrade, giving her flowers and paying homage to the Brazilian gymnast.

Biles previously made comments about Andrade during the Paris Games over how close their competition is.

After the all-around women's gymnastics final on Thursday, Aug. 1, in the Paris Games and during a press conference, Biles joked about her competition with Andrade.

Biles jokingly said she didn't want to compete with Rebeca Andrade anymore because she had never had an athlete that close to her. Biles snagged the gold in that competition with Andrade but fell slightly short this time around.

On Monday, several people took to social media to praise the two American gymnasts for their sportsmanship.

In a news conference, Biles stated that it was exciting to see an all-black podium

"She's such an excitement to watch, and then all the fans in the crowd always cheering for her, so it was just the right thing to do," said Biles.

The American gymnast said it was Chiles' idea to bow down to her, and she agreed in a heartbeat.

"She's an icon, a legend herself. So I feel like being recognized is what everybody should do when it comes to somebody who has put in the work and the dedication," said Chiles. "Why don't we just give her her flowers? Giving back makes it so beautiful."
