Florida Paralympians: Here's who has won medals

A handful of Florida athletes won medals, with one Florida State University grad winning five.

TAMPA, Fla. — The Paris 2024 Paralympic Games wrapped up on Sunday with the United States coming in third with the amount of medals won, totaling 105. More than 4,000 athletes from around the world competed and 10 were from Florida or had ties to the state.

Here are the six athletes from the Sunshine State who took home medals:

  • Abbas Karimi
    • Hometown: Fort Lauderdale
    • Sport: Para Swimming
    • Won silver in the mixed 4x50m freestyle relay 20pts and silver in the mixed 4x50m medley relay 20pts
  • Nicky Nieves
    • Hometown: Kissimmee
    • Sport: Volleyball
    • Won gold with Team USA's women's sitting volleyball team
  • Morgan Ray
    • Hometown: St. Augustine
    • Sport: Para Swimming
    • Won silver in the mixed 4x50m medley relay 20pts
  • Gemma Wollenschlaeger
    • Hometown: St. Augustine Beach
    • Sport: Para-rowing
    • Won silver in the mixed PR3 coxed four
  • Lee Fredette
    • Hometown: East Moriches, NY
    • Education: University of Miami
    • Sport: Wheelchair Rugby
    • Won silver medal with Team USA
  • Christie Raleigh Crossley
    • Hometown: Toms River, NJ
    • Education: Florida State University
    • Sport: Para Swimming
