Lightning postpone home opener after Hurricane Milton

The game had been scheduled for Saturday against Carolina.

TAMPA, Fla. — The Tampa Bay Lightning announced Thursday that their home opener scheduled for Saturday will be postponed after Hurricane Milton tore through the region.

Milton left flooding, damage and power loss in its path, including in downtown Tampa, including high waters in the area of Amalie Arena.

While there were no initial reports of major damage to the arena, as was seen at the Tampa Bay Rays' Tropicana Field, the area will still need time to recover before it's time to host a hockey game. The Lightning's announcement said a make-up date for the game — which was scheduled for Saturday against the Carolina Hurricanes — "will be announced at a later time."

Those with single-game purchased tickets to the game were directed to "contact their original point of purchase" about possible refunds.

Bolt For Life members will "receive additional information from their account executives," the team said.

"Our thoughts are with all those affected," the Lightning added on X.

Tampa Bay's next scheduled home game is on Tuesday, Oct. 15 against the Vancouver Canucks. There was no indication given that the game wouldn't go ahead as scheduled.
