High schoolers who gifted custodian with dream car get their own surprise courtesy of the Commanders

The team honored the sophomores for honoring their custodian.

WASHINGTON — A group of teenagers who made their favorite custodian's dreams come true were given a surprise of their own this week, courtesy of the Washington Commanders.

In September, a group of James Madison High School students surprised their school's custodian with his dream car as a way to show their appreciation for all that he does.

In 2023, a group of freshmen were casually talking with Francis, the school's custodian. He told the students his birthday was approaching and when they asked what he wanted for his birthday, Francis told the kids he "desired to get a Jeep Wrangler." He told the boys that his end goal in life was to purchase that dream car.

With this goal in mind, the students made it their mission to raise the money to purchase Francis his dream Jeep. With the help of a GoFundMe and a partnership with a local dealership, the boys presented the new car to Francis, who was so excited he fell to the ground with joy.

"Today is a wonderful day in my life and I will never forget it," Francis said upon receiving the car.

Months later, it was the boy's turn for a surprise as Washington Football Alum Santana Moss and Commanders mascot Major Tuddy arrived to gift the boys and Francis tickets to the game against the Chicago Bears on Oct. 27.

"I know you all are probably wondering what's going on right?" said Moss. "On behalf of the Commanders, myself, and Tuddy, we're here to invite you to one of our games, our home games against the Bears."

Moss told the boys the team plans to "honor you guys, for honoring this guy," referring to Francis.
