HOUSTON — Houston Texans wide receiver Tank Dell was wounded in a shooting in Florida, according to the team.
The team posted to social media Sunday, saying the shooting happened last night in Sanford, Florida, which is near Orlando.
Dell has been released from the hospital and is in good spirits, according to the Texans. They also said they’re in contact with Dell and his family.
At this point, we don’t know the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The team said it would release more details when appropriate.
Dell, who played in college at the University of Houston, had his rookie season with the Texans cut short by injury. He's originally from Daytona Beach, Florida, which is around 40 miles from Sanford.
Dell was one of ten people shot over the weekend at a club in Sanford, Florida. We’re learning the suspect in shooting is a 16-year-old, who is now in juvenile detention. The teen is charged with possession of a firearm, the use and display of a firearm during a felony, firing a weapon in public property and attempted homicide.
Tank Dell's rookie season cut short
In his rookie season, Dell was a major weapon for quarterback C.J. Stroud. He hauled in 47 passes for 709 yards and seven touchdowns. The standout season came to an end against Denver, when Dell suffered a leg injury December 3 against the Broncos at NRG Stadium.
