TAMPA, Fla. — The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are traveling back to the 70s by breaking out their "Creamsicle" uniforms for one game this season.
The Bucs wore the orange and white uniforms for the first time in more than a decade during the 2023 season against the Detroit Lions. This year, they'll feature the classic uniforms against the Atlanta Falcons on Oct. 27 at Raymond James.
Like last season, the Creamsicle uniforms celebrate nearly 50 years of the Tampa Bay Bucs. The team will transform Raymond James Stadium into the team's original home, the Tampa Stadium, with retro field stencils, stadium bunting and video board assets.
"We know how special these uniforms are to our long-time Krewe members and we are excited to continue honoring our rich history and building off the momentum that's been created with another very memorable game that will celebrate our first division championship," Buccaneers COO Brian Ford said in a statement.
The Buccaneers primarily played in white and "Florida Orange" uniforms from their first season in 1976 through 1996. They then adopted a new color scheme, pewter and red, as their successful stretch as a team began.
The team will also use the uniforms to pay tribute to the 1979 season when the Bucs earned its first-ever division championship and playoff qualifier in its fourth year as a franchise.
The Bucs first revived the look back in 2009 against the Green Bay Packers and played in the original colors through 2012, but stopped when the NFL adopted a new rule that required teams to only use one helmet for each player for the full season. Since then, that rule has been changed.
The Bucs will sport their white helmet with the "Bucco Bruce" swashbuckling pirate, white pants and Creamsicle orange jersey against the Atlanta Falcons on Oct. 27, 2024, in a Week Eight game.
