Mark Richt is expected to become the next coach at Miami, according to multiple people with knowledge of the process. The people spoke on the condition of anonymity because the deal is not official.
Other candidates involved in Miami's search were put on pause last night because of Richt's involvement and today began moving on to other plans, believing Richt would ultimately take the job.
ESPN reported Wednesday that Richt has accepted the job.
Richt, who was fired by Georgia on Sunday, was unsure whether he would jump right back into coaching or take some time off. But the opportunity to return to his alma mater and a nationally relevant program was too enticing to turn down.
This will be arguably the splashiest hire of the coaching carousel given Richt's 15-year track record of success at Georgia and Miami's hunger to return to the championship conversation.
