Tallahassee, Florida -- Dalvin Cook's demand for a speedy trial was approved by a Leon County judge on Wednesday, meaning the sophomore Florida State running back will have his day in court on Aug. 24.

Cook, wearing a white polo shirt and khaki pants, was seen across the street from the courthouse with one of his attorney's, Ricky Patel, but they were not at the hearing.

Cook's lawyer in Miami, Joey McCall, handled the proceeding via conference call and Cook was attending an FSU student code of conduct hearing.

Jury selection for the hearing will take place on Aug. 21.

Cook was suspended indefinitely from the football team after turning himself into Leon County Jail on July 11. He was charged with one count of misdemeanor battery after allegedly hitting a woman outside a Tallahassee bar on June 23.

The FSU football team began its fall practice slate last week, and will open the 2015 regular season on Sept. 5 against Texas State. Cook has not been a part of practice.

Cook's attorneys have said their client is innocent, and will not accept a plea deal.
