Ben Hill Griffin Stadium was the place where Steve Spurrier created football history for the University of Florida as the school's winningest football coach and first Heisman Trophy winner.
His statue stands outside the stadium in honor of his 12 seasons and 122-27-1 record as head coach.
And if the Board of Trustees approves, the field Spurrier nicknamed The Swamp will soon be officially named Steve Spurrier/Florida Field at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.
"We feel this was an appropriate way to commemorate one the most legendary figures in Gator athletics history," UF athletic director Jeremy Foley said in a statement. "Coach Spurrier did more than win a Heisman Trophy, a national championship and a bunch of games. Coach Spurrier changed the culture of Florida athletics. We were an institution that always had a mantra of wait until next year and wouldn't it be great to just win one championship. Coach changed all of that. The Gators won, won big and won with swagger. As much as he impacted the football program, he changed the vibe in the entire athletic department."
The university also confirmed the news on their Gators Football Twitter account with a video looking back at Spurrier's career during his time at UF.
