The University of Tampa's women's lacrosse team won its first-ever NCAA Division II National Championship.

TAMPA, Fla. — The University of Tampa's women's lacrosse team has a big reason to celebrate — they're the reigning national champions!

It's also the first time the Spartans won the coveted NCAA Division II Women's Lacrosse National Title in the team's history. From start to finish, the 2024 season has been historic for the sports program.

During the first game of the season, back on Feb. 21, Tampa set a franchise record for the number of goals scored during a single game when they beat Lenoir-Rhyne 26-3.

Just three days later, the Spartans beat that brand-new goal record and "rewrote history" when they blew past North Greenville after scoring 28 goals during the game

Closing out the regular season, the Spartans marked their fifth consecutive conference win. They moved on to the Sunshine State Conference Tournament, where they emerged as champions

The team then advanced to the NCAA Division II Tournament quarterfinals, marking its 2nd consecutive appearance in the contest.

This record-breaking season continued when the lacrosse team punched its ticket to the NCAA Division II Tournament semifinals, marking the first time the team achieved that feat. It wasn't easy, but the Spartans secured a come-from-behind win to make it to the final show — the National Championship game.

Then, on May 25, the Spartans capped off their entire season with a final score of 13-8 over then-No. 1 seed Adelphi, securing the win. The team then hoisted the NCAA Division II Women's Lacrosse National Title trophy in celebration and recognition of a historic season.
