TAMPA, Fla. — Soccer is one of the most popular sports in the world.
Traditionally, it's played by two teams of 11 players, over two 45 minute halves, but Red Bull Neymar Jr’s Five, is played a little different.
This global soccer tournament is played in 48 different countries. The 5 on 5 tournament is played on a smaller field and with smaller goals. What really makes it different is that every-time you score, your opponent loses a player.
"If you score first, you should not lose," said Enrique Bello, with Cinco Soccer. in Tampa.
Cinco Soccer will be hosting a Neymar Jr.’s Five regional qualifying tournament on Saturday.
"It’s actually a pretty big event for us to have here in Tampa," Bello said. "We get over, I would say, 500 players."
Games last 10 minutes, or until one team runs out of players. The top four teams at the regional qualifier advance to nationals in Orlando, with the eventual winner heading to Brazil to represent the U.S. in the World Finals.
There is still time to sign up to play. Visit the Neymar Jr’s Five website for a complete list of rules.
