CLEARWATER, Fla. — It's been exactly six months since David and Mina Swan were found murdered in their Clearwater home.
David and Mina Swan, both in their 80s, were found shot to death in their Flushing Avenue home on Sept. 29.
Police said it was not a random crime, and police Chief Daniel Slaughter said the evidence shows "that the offender came to kill."
The $28K reward that was originally offered has been increased to $50K, the Clearwater Police Department and the Swan family announced Friday.
The family is hoping the increased reward will help detectives solve the case. The search for the person or people responsible for the murder has turned into a community-wide effort.
"OutFront Media initially donated billboard space throughout the Tampa Bay region and has again committed to displaying billboards indicating this new $50,000 reward and soliciting tips and information from the public," the Clearwater Police Department Homicide detective said.
The detective also reiterated that "someone out there knows something."
Mina's daughter appeared emotional when she took the stand to address the murder.
"I can't believe it's been six months. Thank you for remembering her," she said.
She expressed her thanks for the continued community-wide search.
"We know that there's answers out there, we know that. Someone out there knows something and I hope they'll share that information, it's extremely important to us," the daughter said.
She continued to urge the public to help with the police department's search for the killer.
"We wanted the reward out there as a reminder that mom was loved and very much missed," she said with a cracked voice.
