NEWTON, Kansas -- A police officer who ordered food in Newton, Kansas was given two burritos with the word "pig" written on the wrappers, reports CBS affiliate KWCH.

The photo of the wrappers bearing the derogatory term for police officers has gone viral on social media.

The incident was reported Saturday evening in the community north of Wichita, when a Newton police officer picked up food for himself and his fiancee, Newton police said in a statement. The photo was posted on social media by a person who isn't connected to the department, according to the statement.

"We understand the incident was the action of an individual, and do not hold ill will to Taco Bell or any of its employees (even the individual who wrote the message)," the police statement read.

The employee responsible for writing the phrase on the wrappers has been fired, a Taco Bell spokesperson told the station.

"Our franchisee apologizes for the worker's behavior and is working closely with Newton Police and the officer to correct the situation. He has identified and let go the worker who was responsible, and does not share the same belief or views as the employee," read a statement released to the station by Taco Bell.

While the employee who wrote on the wrappers didn't break any laws, Newton's Police Chief Eric Murphy says he wants to work with Taco Bell to develop a better relationship, reports the station.
