Two fugitives on the run for 15 years caught in Polk County

A man and woman who fled from Indiana back in 2003 and assumed new identities were arrested, plus two other men who were assisting them.

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - Two fugitives from Indiana on the run since 2003 were arrested in Polk County, along with two men who assisted them, the Polk County Sheriff's Office said.

Derrick Holman, 52, and Michele Cox, 48, were arrested In Indiana on drug possession and weapons charges. They bonded out, but failed to appear in court for the charges.

Holman's 49-year-old brother, Mark, and Nathan Olsen, 32, were also arrested for helping the pair.

Cox and Derrick Holman obtained Tennessee driver licenses under the names of Eric Brewer and Mechele Green, using personal information from those two people, the sheriff's office said.

Florida authorities became aware of the couple when the real Eric Brewer notified law enforcement that a credit report showed his name was linked to property in Polk County - property he never owned, the sheriff's office said.

"The two fugitives from justice assumed new identities here in Florida to avoid capture," Sheriff Grady Judd said in a statement. "In the end, they wound up with a lot of felonies, and a paid one-way ticket back to Indiana."

Cox is charged with aggravated white collar crime of $50,000 or more, use of ID of another without consent for $50,000 or more, obtain property by fraud > $50,000, forgery, two counts of bringing into state forged documents, two counts of uttering, false statement on motor vehicle insurance and two counts of filing false documents for property.

Derrick Holman is charged with aggravated white collar crime of $50,000 or more, use of ID of another without consent for $50,000 or more, obtain property by fraud > $50,000, false statement on motor vehicle insurance, false proof of motor vehicle insurance, and forgery.

Mark Holman is charged with obtain property by fraud > $50,000 and forging public record.

Nathan Olsen is charged with obtain property by fraud > $50,000 and filing false document against property.

Indiana officials plan to extradite Derrick Holman and Michele Cox from Florida to face the following 2003 charges:

  • Derrick Holman - Failure to appear, dealing in cocaine, possession of firearm by serious felon, possession of marijuana over 30 grams and possession of drug paraphernalia.
  • Michele Cox- Failure to appear, dealing in cocaine, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
