The purpose of the worldwide lessons is to provide kids and parents exposure to life-saving water safety skills. The lessons also build awareness about the importance of teaching children to swim to help prevent drowning.
The World Health Organization estimates drowning is one of the top five causes of death for people ages 1-14 in 48 of the 85 countries it monitors around the world. Last year, 41,814 kids and adults participated in the World's Largest Swim Lesson in 27 countries.
The annual event began in 2010.
