ST PETERSBURG-- Police arrested a 14-year-old boy after they say he threatened to "shoot anyone at his school for not wearing red."

Officers say he made a threat to another student saying anyone who was not wearing red on Friday at the high school would be shot. The students spread the rumors through social media.

After being aware of the situation, parents and concerned students alerted the school resource officer and the administration and investigators were able to find the boy responsible.

After he was arrested at the school, the boy told police he wasn't serious and meant it all as a joke.

Police are still investigating the threats.

If convicted, he could be forced with a second degree felony of making a false report concerning the use of a firearm in a violent manner.

The incident is not related to any clown sighting or postings.
