Columbia, SC (WLTX) - A University of South Carolina fraternity is on administrative suspension following the death of a student early Wednesday morning.
The Columbia Police Department and the Richland County Coroner's office are both investigating the death of the student, who was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha. Coroner Gary Watts says his body was found around 10:30 a.m. at a home on Lee Street.
Officers say the death is suspicious, but that there are no signs of foul play or trauma.
The student has not been identified. An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.
The national office for the fraternity issued a statement Wednesday afternoon say the USC chapter is on administrative suspension, and has ceased all operations for now. They add that the fraternity is cooperating with investigators.
"The fraternity's thoughts and prayers are with the family of this young man and the brothers of Xi Chapter."
