Small plane crashes at Albert Whitted Airport

A Cessna plane crashed on the runway at Albert Whitted Airport Wednesday morning.

<p>A student pilot crashed this Cessna plane upon landing at Albert Whitted Airport on March 1. The pilot was not injured.</p>

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- A Cessna plane crashed on the runway at Albert Whitted Airport Wednesday morning.

The pilot was the only person in the small plane during the crash, which happened around 11:20 a.m. in front of the airport control tower.

According to a release from St. Petersburg Fire and Rescue, the student pilot was practicing takeoffs and landings when it crashed on landing. The collision damaged the plane's landing gear and caused a minor fuel leak.

St. Petersburg Police and St. Pete Fire Rescue is on scene of a small plane crash.

St. Petersburg Police reported that the pilot was not injured.

The Federal Aviation Administration and Albert Whitted Airport are investigating the crash.
