SARASOTA, Fla. — The Sarasota County School District's assistant superintendent and chief operating officer has been placed on paid administrative leave after a school employee filed a complaint.
Jeff Maultsby will remain on leave until an investigation is finished, which is expected to take several weeks, the district said Tuesday.
The investigation concerns allegations made against Maultsby in May, but the district said new allegations prompted Superintendent Todd Bowden to suspend Maultsby now.
Because of the nature of the complaints, the district said it could not disclose more information.
The Sarasota Herald Tribune reported Monday, however, that Maultsby's former assistant, Cheraina Bonner, filed a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission saying he bragged about his sexual prowess. According to the newspaper, Bonner said he told her, "I'm a beast in the bed."
In May, she filed a complaint with the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office after she claims a message from him appeared to be a threat if she blew the whistle on him, according to WWSB.
Maultsby was named to his post last year.
