Sarasota National Cemetery honors Veterans

It's important that we remember our veterans every day of the year

SARASOTA, FLA. -- It's important that we remember our veterans every day of the year, whether they are retired, active, or fallen; but this weekend, as we head into Memorial Day on Monday, it's certainly at the forefront of all of our minds.

On Saturday, at Sarasota National Cemetery, more than 300 volunteers, including cub scouts and the patriot guard riders, placed thousands of American flags on every fallen veteran's headstone.

This was all organized by the non-profit group Flags for fallen Vets.

Emotions were running high this morning as those flags were put in place.

Tami Martin who helped to organize the flag effort explained "I have six generations of family members from the Civil War to World War II…Korean War…Vietnam…and currently a son-and-law serving. We just need to remember what they do for our country."

There will be a big ceremony tomorrow at 5:00 pm at the Sarasota National Cemetery, to honor veterans and military families. U.S. Army Retired Brigadier General Richard M. Blunt will be the keynote speaker.
