Ribfest to end after 30 years in St. Petersburg

There will be no Ribfest in 2019.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — After 30 years of bringing together rib flavors from around the world for a good cause, Ribfest is being retired.

The Northeast Exchange Club, the organizers of the fest, made the announcement Wednesday. They say the festival typically held in Vinoy Park in downtown St. Petersburg has raised more than $4.5 million for local charities, bringing in millions in economic impact to the community.

"As with any great organization, change is inevitable," the organization said in a statement. "St. Petersburg has changed over the years and with it the needs of the community."

The organizers thanked the City of St. Petersburg, parks and recreation and the fire and police departments that have made the event possible over the years.

The club put out a special thanks to the patrons, adding, "Your patronage is why so many children and families were served through the donations from Ribfest along with countless other community projects."

Fans were left with a little tease of what's to come.

"The Northeast Exchange club is dedicated to St. Petersburg. Stay tuned for what is next!" the statement ended with.
