MIAMI — A woman was stabbed "multiple times" before almost being thrown off a balcony at Miami International Airport.
Police said a woman and man were on the fourth floor at the International Arrivals section of Terminal J Saturday night when he stabbed her and tried to throw her over the railing at about 11:33 p.m., according to a news release from Miami-Dade Police.
The woman escaped and ran downstairs to the third floor where police found her. The man was arrested, and police recovered the knife. The woman was transported to a hospital in critical condition, the release read.
Airport officials said the situation was "swiftly contained" in an X post.
“We want to assure the public that the situation is under control and the safety of our passengers, staff, and visitors remains our top priority,” officials said in the statement.
The Instagram account Only in Dade posted that bystanders helped the woman until medical personnel arrived.
Police also said they received reports of a possible active shooter during this incident, but that was a false alarm. Airport operations were briefly disrupted but have since resumed to normal, they said.
