VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A woman died from her injuries Friday after being saved days earlier from an SUV submerged in a canal in Volusia County.
Body cam video from a Volusia County deputy shows the moment when deputies, witnesses and firefighters all worked together to push the overturned SUV upright.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, at around 12:18 p.m., the 57-year-old woman was driving a 2018 Toyota Highlander eastbound on Maytown Road. That's when suddenly for unknown reasons, she reportedly lost control of the car and ran off the roadway.
The SUV crashed into a tree before flipping and landing in a body of water, FHP explains. The woman became submerged while in the overturned car.
The Volusia County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene where deputies, witnesses and firefighters worked together to remove the woman from the car.
Deputies found she still had a pulse, and video shows a deputy and firefighter performing CPR on her. She was taken to the hospital in critical condition, but FHP reports the 57-year-old woman died from her injuries Friday evening.
The crash remains under investigation.
