TAMPA, Fla. — Florida’s Chief Financial Officer told former President Donald Trump he has thousands of unclaimed dollars that he can use to fight his battles in court.
CFO Jimmy Patronis wrote a letter to Trump saying he has $54,000 that was found by the state’s Division of Unclaimed Property.
In his letter, he talked about the state’s Treasure Hunt program, which is designed to return lost or unknown financial assets back to the original owners. Patronis said unclaimed property can be in the form of dormant bank accounts, stocks and dividends among others.
“There are some very, very nasty people coming after you, and every dollar matters in your efforts to fight back against these radical state attorneys who have weaponized the courts,” Patronis wrote.
He encouraged Trump to go to the Treasure Hunt website or to reach out to him directly to get the money. He also said he could be contacted through the Truth Social platform, which Trump launched after he was banned from other social media platforms for violating the rules.
“We need you and your team to have every resource possible to get through these BS charges so you can get back to work in Making America Great Again!” Patronis said.
A search of the site with Donald Trump’s name shows three unclaimed amounts.
$114.72 from PayPal with no address
$9,108.42 from PayPal to an address in Ormond Beach
$354.69 from FedEx to Trump’s South Florida home
A search of just “Trump” revealed unclaimed property belonging to Ivana Trump, his late ex-wife, and several businesses with Trump’s name such as Trump International Golf Club in West Plam Beach.
This money could help him get back a small fraction of the millions in legal fees he has paid so far. Just last week, Trump posted a $175 million bond in his New York civil fraud case, which is on appeal.
Trump's criminal cases
Trump is the center of four criminal cases. The most notable one currently is the so-called hush-money case where he is being accused of falsifying business records in connection with paying off adult film star Stormy Daniels. She said she had a sexual encounter with him, and the payoff kept her silent during the 2016 election.
On Tuesday, Daniels testified about her first encounter with Trump, which was the most-awaited spectacle of the trial.
Two of the cases revolved around election interference with one in Georgia state court and the other in federal court. The fourth case also deals with federal charges and accuses Trump of taking highly sensitive national security documents when he left the White House.
Currently, he was indicted on charges for three of the cases but only the hush-money case is currently on trial.
Patronis' history supporting Trump
Patronis has voiced his support for Trump and endorsed him back in January on the day DeSantis dropped out of the race.
He also supported a bill that would make it possible for the state to give $5 million to a presidential candidate facing “political discrimination” in court to cover legal fees.
DeSantis threatened to veto it in a tweet.
Patronis said Florida has returned nearly $2.4 billion in unclaimed property to residents since he took office in 2017.
All Florida residents have the ability to check if they have unclaimed property and can claim the funds whenever they want for free. Click or tap here for information.
