Trump says he supports Florida amendment to legalize recreational marijuana

The former president posted on his Truth Social account that he supports the ballot initiative to legalize recreational marijuana in Florida.

TAMPA, Fla. — Former President Donald Trump posted about his support for a ballot amendment that, if passed, would make marijuana legal for recreational use.

He posted on his Truth Social account that Amendment 3 will be passed in Florida.

"Whether people like it or not, this will happen through the approval of the voters, so it should be done correctly," part of his post read.

Trump also said laws need to be put into place "to prohibit the use of it in public spaces, so we do not smell marijuana everywhere we go, like we do in many of the Democrat run cities."

He said Floridians shouldn't be considered criminals for having marijuana when it is legal in other states.

"We do not need to ruin lives & waste taxpayer dollars arresting adults with personal amounts of it on them, and no one should grieve a loved one because they died from fentanyl laced marijuana," the post read.

Amendment 3 would allow the sale and possession of recreational marijuana for people 21 and older

Current state law allows people over the age of 21 to buy marijuana if they have a medical marijuana card. If the initiative goes on the ballot and voters approve, people will be able to possess up to three ounces of marijuana.

Trump's Truth Social post comes right after he said he wouldn't support Florida's ballot measure that would repeal the state's six-week abortion ban.

On Friday, Trump said in an interview that six weeks is too short but then he said he opposed allowing abortions up until nine months.

“So I’ll be voting no for that reason,” said Trump, who is registered to vote at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida.

That amendment would legalize abortion until fetal viability, which is about six months.

To pass these amendments, 60% of those voting on the amendment need to vote “yes.”
