Florida man arrested after dumping more than 10,000 pounds of trash on side of the road

BIG PINE KEY, Fla. — A 65-year-old Florida man was arrested for leaving more than 10,000 pounds of trash on the side of the road, according to Monroe County Sheriff's Office.

In a Facebook post, deputies said Benjamin Scott Holroyd, of Big Pine Key, admitted to leaving a large pile of debris and trash on 18th Lane. 

Holroyd admitted he was the person to first begin dumping trash in that area, deputies said.

Monroe County Solid Waste workers removed a total of 10,380 pounds of garbage and debris from the scene.

The 65-year-old was charged with felony illegal dumping. 

The sheriff's office also reported on Friday that a 29-year-old from Key West was also arrested in connection to about 1,400 pounds of trash left on the side of the road. 

Robert Thomas Householder was charged with felony illegal dumping. 

Householder and Holroyd were both arrested in the same week for illegal dumping.
