TAMPA, Fla. — Eligible SunPass customers won’t be getting their toll relief credits on the 15th this month.
Multiple Reddit users posted online about not receiving their credit, and one user said online that they received saying the credits were delayed and would be applied by the end of the month.
The delay is only for this month and will be posted on the 15th of each month in the future, according to the post.
In a statement, the Florida Department of Transportation said credits would begin appearing at the end of May.
Two Reddit threads from last week revealed frustrations from customers. One user posted that he or she called and a SunPass spokesperson said they were having issues with the refunds.
One SunPass customer got this message on Thursday:
"The 2024 Toll Relief Program started April 1 and credits will begin posting once the administrative processes of the 2024 Florida legislative session conclude. As of now, there is not a date for when the toll credit will be applied. I apologize for the inconvenience."
Michael Williams, a spokesperson with the Florida Department of Transportation, said the credits are not delayed.
"Even with last year’s program, credits would be applied the following month. With 22 million customers it does take some time to process all of the credits," he said in a statement.
Toll relief works if a person has 35 or more paid transactions monthly. If a SunPass user, or other Florida transponder, is eligible, they will automatically receive a 50% toll credit posted to their account.
The initiative was renewed for the second year by Gov. Ron DeSantis in April. The year-long program is expected to cost about $450 million and only covers two-axle vehicles, so mostly cars and light trucks.
The toll rebate program has been a big hit, saving more than 1.1 million drivers a total of $500 million in 2023, according to the governor's office. That's an average of $400 per driver.
