TITUSVILLE, Fla. — A Brevard County man made quite the discovery last month when he found a shark with a rare deformity.
Brian Tittle of Titusville found a bull shark with a form of scoliosis or spinal deformity affecting its vertebral column making it appear as if its tail is "squiggly," according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
The FWC Fish and Wildlife Research Institute said while conditions in fish like these are rare, the team has encountered "similar anomalies" in other shark and bony fish species.
Examples of these fish, like the seatrout pictured below, can be spotted by identifying the strange shape of the vertebral column.
The shark that Tittle found was released.
