The president reportedly ordered Federal aid to supplement recovery efforts in the areas affected by the storm, including Sarasota and Manatee County.

FLORIDA, USA — U.S. President Joe Biden has approved a major disaster declaration for Florida in the days after Hurricane Debby, the White House said in a news release.

The president reportedly ordered Federal aid to supplement State, tribal and local recovery efforts in the areas affected by the storm.

Biden's move makes Federal funding available to those affected in the following counties:

  • Columbia
  • Dixie
  • Gilchrist
  • Hamilton
  • Lafayette
  • Levy
  • Manatee
  • Sarasota
  • Suwannee
  • Taylor

Assistance provided by the declaration includes grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses and other programs to help residents and business owners recover from the disaster, according to the White House.

The White House added that federal funding will also be available to state, tribal and local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations in the previously mentioned counties, with the addition of Madison County.

Residents and business owners who suffered damage in the designated areas can apply for assistance here, according to the White House. They can also call 800-621-FEMA (3362), or use the FEMA App.
