MIAMI — A passenger on the world's largest cruise ship that sailed from Florida is dead after various outlets say he jumped overboard.

According to an article from the New York Post, the 1,200-foot Icon of the Seas cruise ship left Sunday for a seven-day cruise around the Caribbean. It was first set to make a stop in Roatan, Honduras.

During the time of the incident, Cruise Hive reports the ship was around 300 miles from PortMiami and about 30-40 miles north of Santa Lucia, Cuba.

After the unidentified man jumped off the ship, the 2,350-person emergency crew reportedly began a search and rescue mission. The ship stayed at the location for about two hours before the man was found.

Cruise Hive received the following statement from Royal Caribbean:

The ship’s crew immediately notified the U.S. Coast Guard and launched a search and rescue operation. Our Care Team is actively providing support and assistance to the guest’s loved ones during this difficult time. For the privacy of the guest and their family, we have no additional details to share.

The outlet also reported that the man was in critical condition at the time he was rescued. Additionally, it adds he was recovering in the ship's onboard intensive care unit with his family.

The New York Post received this statement from the Coast Guard regarding the man's death:

“He was pronounced deceased. Beyond assisting in the search, the US Coast Guard did not have much involvement in this incident.”

Both outlets report that there were around 7,600 confirmed passengers on the ship.

The Icon of the Seas cruise ship is set to return to Miami on Saturday.
