Ocala police issue arrest warrant for man suspected in deadly mall shooting

Police are looking for a 39-year-old man, seen in one mugshot with teardrop and cross tattoos on his face.

OCALA, Fla. — Ocala Police have issued an arrest warrant for the man suspected in the deadly mall shooting that killed one person and injured another.

In a statement posted to their social media pages, the OPD said it would offer $5,000 to anyone whose information helps track down 49-year-old Albert J. Shell, Jr.

Shell is wanted for first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder.

While officers have released little information about Shell, they have said that he specifically targeted the people in the shooting, and that he and the victims knew each other.

Shell is accused of killing a man by shooting him multiple times in a common area at the Paddock Mall and shooting a woman in the leg. The woman was treated at a hospital and is expected to recover.

Ocala Police had previously released mall security camera photos of the suspect and a statement requesting that a person who took the suspect’s hat from the crime scene turn it over to investigators or be charged with evidence tampering.

The mall’s corporate owner, WPG, said in a statement that they were working with the OPD in their investigation of the shooting.

"We are deeply saddened by this tragedy. Our thoughts are with all those involved,” the statement said. “The safety of our guests, retailers and employees is our top priority.”

In a video statement, Ocala mayor Ben Marciano said the communities' thoughts and prayers were with the shooting victims and their families.

"We extend our deepest sympathies to those who are affected by this terrible act of violence," said Marciano.

Ocala police have asked anyone with information on the shooting or Shell's whereabouts to call 352-656-6137 or submit an anonymous tip by calling 352-368-7867 or **TIPS. Tips can also be submitted online at OcalaCrimeStoppers.com.
