OCALA, Fla. — Fifteen people – including 11 students with special needs – are in the hospital after being hurt Tuesday morning in a multi-vehicle crash in Florida.
The crash, which involved a school bus, pickup truck and a fire rescue vehicle, occurred just before 9 a.m. in Ocala, the Marion County Fire Rescue said in a Facebook post.
Authorities say the collision happened at the intersection of Southwest 90th Street and Southwest 80th Avenue. The fire rescue vehicle was hit in the crash and rolled over on its side while it was on its way to a medical call.
The crash was in the vicinity of a fire station and when crews arrived at the scene, they quickly looked at the people hurt to see if they needed medical attention.
Two firefighters, 11 students, a bus driver and the driver of the truck were all taken by fire rescue crews to nearby hospitals.
"Eight of the students were transported as a precaution while 3 had minor injuries," officials say.
The firefighters also suffered minor injuries.
The Florida Highway Patrol will continue to investigate the incident.
"MCFR would like to remind our citizens to yield to emergency vehicles as our lights and sirens are on," the Facebook post reads.
