LEE COUNTY, Florida — A crash between two motorcycles left a 21-year-old man dead and an 18-year-old man hospitalized with critical injuries Tuesday night on Interstate 75 in Lee County.

The two motorcyclists were traveling at a high rate of speed in the southbound travel lanes before losing control, Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) said in a news release. Both of them were reportedly thrown from their motorcycles once they crashed.

Both motorcycles came to a final rest on the wet grass shoulder, according to authorities. The 21-year-old was reportedly pronounced dead at the scene while the 18-year-old was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) says the crash is still under investigation.
