Search underway for diver last seen near WWII shipwreck in Florida

St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office searches for missing diver last seen near the WWII-era Halsey shipwreck.

JENSEN BEACH, Fla. — A man last seen diving near a World War II shipwreck off Florida's east coast is missing as authorities work to find him. 

According to the U.S. Coast Guard, 39-year-old Virgil Price was free diving Sunday morning about nine miles off Jensen Beach in St. Lucie County, not far from Port St. Lucie. 

The WWII Halsey shipwreck is in that area, according to the sheriff's office. 

Price was last seen wearing a green wetsuit with an orange stripe on the hood, yellow weights on his weight belt and black carbon fiber flippers. 

Anyone with knowledge about Price's whereabouts is asked to call U.S. Coast Guard Sector Miami at 305-535-4472. 

Multiple agencies have responded to the search for the missing diver, including the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office, the U.S. Coast Guard and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
