Naples woman arrested on felony and misdemeanor charges related to Jan. 6 Capitol breach

FBI agents arrested the woman in Naples on Wednesday, Feb. 28.

NAPLES, Fla. — A Florida woman has been arrested on felony and misdemeanor charges related to the breach of the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, the U.S. Department of Justice said in a news release.

Lin Marie Carey, 56, of Naples, is charged with obstruction of an official proceeding and multiple misdemeanors, including disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds.

Carey was arrested on Wednesday, Feb. 28 in Naples and made her initial court appearance in the Middle District of Florida thereafter.

Carey entered the Capitol building on Jan. 6, 2021, through the building's east side with a crowd of other rioters, according to court documents. She was wearing scuba goggles.

"We overtook the Capitol," Carey proclaimed in a video she took after entering the Capitol. "We simply wanted to take our house back."

She also expressed her concerns about the Chinese government overtaking the U.S. government and demanded to talk to U.S. officials, court documents said.

The FBI's Tampa and Washington Field Offices are investigating the case. The U.S. Capitol Police and the Metropolitan Police Department also assisted in the investigation.

More than 1,313 individuals have been charged in nearly all 50 states for crimes related to the breach of the U.S. Capitol, including more than 469 individuals charged with assaulting or impeding law enforcement.
