TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida farmers could be harvesting a hemp crop next year, the state's cannabis czar said Tuesday.
Holly Bell, the first Director of Cannabis under the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, told a meeting of Network of Entrepreneurs and Business Advocates in Tallahassee that permits for growing hemp could be available in the fall at the earliest.
“2020 is going to be our first, I believe, great grow year for industrial hemp,” Bell said.
Bell's comments were reported by WFSU.
She said 13 states have commercial hemp programs that produced almost a billion dollars as of 2018. She said hemp is in demand for skin care products and CDB-infused items.
