FORT MYERS, Fla. — A former Naples Airport customs officer is facing 10 years in federal prison after pleading guilty Tuesday to stealing nearly $19,000 from arriving international airline passengers.

William Timothy, 43, stole approximately $18,700 in 17 separate incidents between mid-2023 and early 2024, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Florida said in a news release.

Evidence uncovered by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Office of Professional Responsibility reportedly showed that Timothy stole cash from passengers during border enforcement examinations and currency verifications.

The attorney's office said Timothy agreed to pay full restitution to the victims of his crimes and immediately resign from CBP.

His sentencing date is yet to be scheduled, according to officials.
