TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Drivers entering Florida will now see new signs welcoming them to the "Free State of Florida."
The signs are displayed on major state highways. There are also new signs for when people exit the state that say "Hurry Back." The new message pays homage to the historic mid-century welcome centers, according to a news release.
Florida Department of Transportation Secretary Jared Perdue tweeted a picture of the sign saying there's no better way to celebrate the 4th of July holiday than with the new additions.
Gov. Ron DeSantis has long used the slogan "The Free State of Florida," and his second term inauguration as governor was themed around the saying. During his speech, he stood beneath two large banners with the slogan on it.
