DELTONA, Fla. — The search for a seven-year-old boy in Florida has ended tragically, according to authorities.
Charlie Newton, who was last seen Monday, Nov. 25 in the area of Stillwater Avenue near Radcliff Street in Deltona has died.
The boy was recovered from a body of water, according to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office.
"This is the tragic outcome we all worked so hard hoping would not come to pass," the sheriff's office said in a Facebook post.
"Our prayers go out to Charlie's family, loved ones and community," FDLE said in an update.
The sheriff's office said Charlie, who had autism, ran off from home Monday around 8 p.m.
"We appreciate all the shares, the community support and the assistance from all our partner agencies in this effort," the sheriff's office said.
