TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — A Florida man was arrested after authorities say he made threats towards President Joe Biden and other U.S. officials.
An arrest affidavit from The Department of Justice says 39-year-old Jason Alday of Quincy was a patient at the Apalachee Center, a mental health facility in Tallahassee.
An employee reportedly called the U.S. Secret Service's Tallahassee Residence Office on June 25 to tell them that Alday was making threatening statements towards Biden.
The caller told Secret Service that Alday said, "I don't like President Biden. I want to kill him, slit his throat," according to the affidavit.
On July 1, a Secret Service agent and Gadsden County deputies interviewed Alday at his parents' house. During the interview, officials say Alday told them he did not recall making the threatening statements towards the president.
After further interviewing him, investigators say Alday became agitated with the questions being asked and told the agent he does not like President Biden.
Before ending the interview, the agent reportedly asked Alday if he recalled wanting to travel to Washington, D.C., to which he also said he did not recall.
According to the affidavit, on Thursday, July 11, officials at the U.S. Secret Service Protective Intelligence Operations Center were notified about threatening posts coming from an X account under the handle "Jason Alderman."
Some of the posts listed in the affidavit read: "I'll kill Joe Biden today!!" and "sources: Joe Biden's health is declining rapidly. Not doing too good at all. Should I finish him off?"
Other posts listed in the affidavit include racially-sensitive remarks, as well as threats to the special agent and Gadsden County deputies that interviewed Alday.
Investigators say they confirmed the posts were from Alday after reviewing the account.
Alday was arrested by U.S. Marshals Service Task Force and the U.S. Secrete Service on Monday. He has made his first appearance in Federal Court.
While not charged, Alday is facing several criminal complaints, including:
- Threatening communication
- Threats against the President of the United States
- Threats against federal officials
The U.S. Secret Service is investigating this incident.
