FHP searching for 3 people who ran from serious hit-and-run crash on I-4 near Disney World exit

The crash ran a Hyundai Tucson off the road before it flipped over, leaving a 20-year-old woman injured.

ORLANDO, Fla. — Florida Highway Patrol troopers are searching for three people who ran off from a serious hit-and-run crash Sunday on Interstate 4 near Disney World.

The crash happened around 11 a.m. Sunday on westbound I-4 near mile marker 67, FHP said in a news release. In the dashcam video of the incident, a 2017 Chevrolet Camaro can be seen traveling in the center lane with a 2016 Hyundai Tucson right in front of it.

The driver of the Camaro reportedly tried to change to the inside lane before colliding with the Tucson, running it off the road and causing it to flip over, the agency said. The 20-year-old woman driving the Tucson was injured but didn't need to be taken to the hospital, according to investigators.

After the crash, witnesses reported three men got out of the Camaro and ran from the scene before being picked up by someone in a gray or silver car. The identities of the suspects are unknown, but FHP described them as black, possibly Hispanic men in their early 20s.

Anyone with information on the crash or the suspects can call FHP at *347 or Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS.

In the release, FHP reminded residents that leaving the scene of a crash that results in property damage, injury or death is against the law.

"The Florida Highway Patrol is reminding Floridians about the consequences of leaving the scene of a crash and the challenges law enforcement face when investigating a hit-and-run crash," FHP stated in the release.

The agency says those involved in a crash should stay at the scene and abide by the following steps:

  • Make sure you and any passengers are okay. Remain calm.
  • If possible, move to the side of the road. Remove your keys if you get out of your vehicle, move off the roadway, and stay in a safe area.
  • Check on others involved. Call 911 if anyone might be injured or a vehicle is inoperable.
  • If there are no injuries or major property damage, gather information. Get the name, driver license, insurance and tag information from the other driver(s). Take photos of the vehicles and information if you can’t write it down and then file a report online.
