KEY WEST, Fla. — Scuba divers found dozens of bricks of suspected cocaine with fake Nike logos printed on them Wednesday off the coast of the Florida Keys, according to local authorities.
Local deputies responded to the diver’s call at about 12:25 p.m. Wednesday, arriving at the Rainbow Reef Diver Center in Key Largo, according to a Monroe County Facebook post.
The divers showed them a black trash bag filled with 25 individually packed bricks with fake “Nike SB” logos on them. At first glance, the divers told them they thought it was a bag full of garbage.
Each brick weighed one kilogram and was later taken to the U.S. Border Patrol, the post said.
A month prior, someone found 65 pounds of cocaine that washed up on a beach in the Florida Keys, according to CBS Miami. Authorities said that batch had an estimated street value of $1 million.
More than a year before that, more than $100,000 worth of cocaine washed up on the shores of three different beaches in the same county. These packages were marked with fake Chanel logos and other designs, according to a Walton County Sheriff’s Office Facebook post in April 2023.
It is unknown where the 25 bricks of cocaine come from, though according to previous media reports, drug traffickers routinely transport cocaine through international waters, with some found with distinctive designs on them.
