MARTIN COUNTY, Fla. — A man is safe after U.S. Coast Guard crew members rescued him while he was stranded on a jetty off of Florida's coast.

A Coast Guard Air Station Miami helicopter crew found the man around 12:20 p.m. Sunday in the area of St. Lucie Inlet.

Officials say an Air Force Rescue Coordination Center watchstander told them about a personal locator beacon that was activated, issuing an urgent marine information bulletin and launching Air Station Miami.

Crews took the unidentified man to a nearby airport with no medical concerns.

“We are grateful this gentleman had a personal locator beacon to notify Coast Guard watchstanders that he was in distress,” Lt. Cmdr. James Fennessey, an Air Station Miami MH-65 helicopter pilot said in a statement. “Today’s mission was truly a success to this mariner’s ability to use his safety equipment along with the high level of training and readiness our crews maintain in order to conduct rescues like this.”

Coast Guard Station Fort Pierce and Martin County Sheriff's Office rescue crews helped with the rescue.
